Motherhood creates a wealth of changes and surprises.  For entrepreneur Nasiba Adilova, it inspired her to create her very own business, The Tot.  Nasiba chatted with The House (just hours after the Met Gala) to share what motherhood and balance means to her.

CH: What does motherhood mean to you?
NA: To mother is to nurture, teach, support, and cherish. It’s about helping your children understand the vital role they can play in making the world a kinder and safer place, while instilling values that have been passed down from generation to generation.

CH: What is the best wisdom your mother gave you?
NA: Travel is one of the best forms of education. Walk in someone else’s shoes. Eat their food. Listen to their stories.

CH: When did motherhood hit you?
NA: It hit me the moment I found out I was pregnant with my first child. I became determined (some might say obsessed) to find advice and products that would help me create a safe, loving (and stylish) environment for my baby. That’s actually how The Tot was born!

CH: What’s one lesson you hope to pass down to your children?
NA: Be kind. I know it’s a cliché, but teaching compassion is one of the most important things to me.

CH: How do you balance your career with being a mom?
NA: Since my first pregnancy, my career has naturally evolved to include my children. The products I create and curate at The Tot are inspired by their needs and wants, which is why I strategically plan my meetings, work trips and office hours around their schedules.
