Twenty-three looks, twenty-three dress names, all beginning with the letter “H.” But a Carolina Herrera bridal gown is much more than a name. Each has its own unique story that begins in the House of Carolina Herrera New York.
A Carolina Herrera gown begins with a concept and sketch. In one of the few remaining ateliers in New York City, each bridal gown is dreamed up by the House design team, which is carefully developed by our patternmakers who drape fabric before planning the design on paper. Our patternmakers then actualize the pattern in muslin. Every drape and every seam is planned, discussed, and charted onto a dressmaker form, before fitting the muslin on the House’s fit model. The fabric cutters then cut the design in fabric. Delicate details, like embroidery, are given even more attention as the design is charted by the in-house embroidery designer and then hand-beaded in India. Following, the look is recreated in fabric.
Trained in haute couture, the Carolina Herrera atelier takes pride in every look. The process to create the full bridal collection takes twelve weeks, with a single look going through at least twenty-five hands. For instance, the Hadley gown (above), an ivory bustier gown swept with delicate miniature flower detail, took 120 hours to create, including its hand-applied dusting of romantic embellishment.
Inspired by the modern bride, the Carolina Herrera Spring 2019 Bridal collection touches upon tradition while bending the rules. Every bride has her something old and something new, but this year the House nudges her into completing her something borrowed and blue with unexpected bursts of yellow or purple satin, because a Carolina Herrera bride isn’t afraid of color. With meticulous attention to detail, the Carolina Herrera Bridal Collection is playful and romantic, offering A-line silhouettes and dramatic trumpet gowns to the bride who is ready to make her own kind of statement.
The Carolina Herrera Spring 2019 Bridal Collection is available for pre-order at a Carolina Herrera Trunk Show.
