Lovingly called Fashion Prom, the CFDA Awards is an annual celebration of the best and brightest in American design. Founded in 1981, the CFDA Awards are the highest honor in fashion and recognize all scopes of American fashion including womenswear and menswear, accessories, emerging talent, and even journalism (to name a few of the categories). This year, Mrs. Herrera was awarded the Founder’s Award in honor of Eleanor Lambert, making it the perfect hat tip to Mrs. Herrera and her new role as our Global Brand Ambassador. Mrs. Herrera wore a custom look inspired by a dress from the Spring 2018 Collection.
Accompanying creative director Wes Gordon to the event were tv sensation and style icon Tracee Ellis Ross and Westworld star Tao Okamoto. Previewing pieces from the Resort 2019 Collection, Ross and Okamoto were the first to wear (and see) the collection that will be revealed this Wednesday, June 6. Always one to make a statement, Ross turned a last-minute hair emergency (her hair stylist cancelled) into a styling opportunity by wrapping her coif in a black grosgrain ribbon that complemented the grosgrain closures in the back of her dress. Ross completed her Resort look with black point-toe stilettos and eye-catching accessories. Being on a tight schedule didn’t stop Okamoto from enjoying the evening – the actress stunned in a one-shoulder black and white tulle gown before jetting off to Paris shortly after Mrs. Herrera received her Founder’s Award.
